Dr. Vivian Kube, LL.M. (EUI, Florence) / Attorney-at-law

Vivian Kube joined the team at beginning of the year as a lawyer specialized in access to information, freedom of the press and transparency laws. She is a strong believer in the importance of equal access to information and power for a democratic and just society. Therefore, she represents NGOs, journalists and other individuals to enforce their rights of access to information – when corresponding with state and security authorities and in court.

She works part-time at the Gesellschaft für Freiheitsrechte (Society for Civil Rights) – a non-profit organization in Berlin that focuses on enforcing constitutional rights by means of strategic litigation. She learned strategic litigations methods at the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR) in the field of gender and human rights. Strategic litigation combines the creative use of legal means, public relations and collaborating with social movements to enforce human rights.

At the European University Institute, in Florence, Italy, she wrote her Ph.D. about EU investment law, human rights and participation of civil society in trade relations. Next to participating in conferences and teaching in the fields of EU law, international economic law, human rights and critical legal practice, she has many years of experience working with and advising human rights organizations and networks. Since her law studies in Hamburg, Germany, and Leiden, the Netherlands, she has volunteered in different migrants’ rights organizations.
